Discovery Day - ORCA: Ocean Research and Conservation Association Inc

Join AEM and Team ORCA as we dive into the world of STEAM as it relates to one of North America’s most biodiverse ecosystems, The Indian River Lagoon.  During this one day workshop, we will travel(on own) to the ORCA headquarters in Vero Beach, Florida.  During the workshop, educator participants will be introduced to ORCA.  You will learn about who they are and why they are working so tirelessly to change the nature of aquatic preservation.  You will be introduced to the many different citizen science opportunities they have as well as the educational resources they are curating.  We will tour their lab facility as well!  Bring your own lunch as we will take a short drive to the coast for a picnic.  After lunch, Team ORCA will be conducting a two hour training on how to implement various scientific data gathering techniques used for the “A Day In the Life” event that they hold annually.  This will include seining, core sampling, an array of water tests, and more.  After the training, we will return to the headquarters where educators will work in small groups to design a lesson plan, based upon something they learned with ORCA.  Sign up today as spaces are limited to 10 educators!
