Greetings educators and all of the best wishes on this Halloween.  May the force be with those of you who will be teaching tomorrow!  AEM is busy working on ways to uplift and support the educator community.  Founder, Ashley Hollern, is preparing for upcoming conferences while education coordinator, Kirstin Cowan, works on next months Resource Roundup issue and planning future Discovery Days and Leading Light gatherings.   Is there a topic you would like to see featured in a workshop?  Just let me know and we will see what we can do?  Looking for an experience for a group of educators from your school?  We can help you with that too!  Just send us an email and we will see how we can help you!  Next month we will be meeting for a Leading Light gathering at The Acre on Sunday November 10 from 1-4pm.  See the attached flyer for more information.  This is a great time to meet other educators, collaborate, and build the educator community.  You are welcome to bring family and friends!  As an added bonus, this Leading Light we are hosting a book exchange.  Simply bring a used(or new) book wrapped in a creative way to participate!  We hope to see you there!

As we close out October and enter the month of Giving Thanks.  I wanted to elevate the subject of Empathy and provide ways to introduce the concept into each area of STEAM and beyond.  One of our Educator Ambassadors, Jessica Sarduy, leads the STEAM Lab at Blankner K-8.  This year, they are focusing the entire lab on the topic of empathy and kindness as students strive to become Empathy Engineers!  Check out their Instagram that is linked to the photo above the school name in the Resource Roundup.  Then dive and find ways to cultivate empathy through STEAM.  High School students(even K-12) can connect with unique ways to spread kindness through the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.  Middle School can explore positive psychology through a database of 40 empathy activities.  Elementary youth(K-12 as well) can learn to lead via Everfi’s Compassion Project and their lesson and activities.  Then go on to learn how science and empathy are connected, connect with One Globe Kids via technology, design assistive devices in engineering, learn how art can foster empathy, and read an article to see how modern analytics can help increase awareness and empathy.
