Hello educator community. November is here! The staff at Authentic Exploration Matters has been keeping busy. This past weekend, AEM participated in the SRATE educator conference and it was an honor to meet new teachers! We wanted to highlight that we have MOVED the Leading Light event at The Acre to December 8, 2024. This will be a used, wrapped book exchange if you would like to participate. Please see the attached flyer for more information. As always, AEM is here to assist you with locating resources you may need on a specific topic. We have also been working with Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach. They have received a grant that allows them to do field trips for Central Florida schools. These field trips also include transportation! If interested, you can reach out to me, Kirsitn Cowan or you may contact Carley Metcalf at Marine Discovery Center.
Arthur Aufderheide once said, “All knowledge is connected to all other knowledge. The fun is in making the connections”. This month our Resource Roundup word is “Connect”. Everything in life is connected - people, ideas, objects. Exploring topics and making connections is a key attribute to creating lasting impressions. This month, as we also celebrate Thanksgiving, we will look at connections through the lenses of genetics, anthropology, and Native American culture. We start with the world of genetics. A few topics the resources connect you with include Mendel’s Three Laws of Inheritance, the basics of DNA, unwrapping family traits, the science of fingerprints, genealogy, patterns of human genetic diversity, Punnett squares, and so much more! We would love to hear how you connect your students to topics within the realm of genetics!
