Autumnal greetings from the staff at Authentic Exploration Matters!  We had an amazing and engaging Discovery Day this past weekend with The Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach.  Attendees gained first-hand knowledge and witnessed the amazing restoration efforts they are taking to aid in the health of the Indian River Lagoon.  We learned about their seagrass, mangrove, and oyster work and were able to see a new system they are using to help grow seagrasses and oysters!  The group additionally had the chance to take a boat ride on the Indian River Lagoon where we witnessed a large pod of dolphins and then learned how different fin shapes are used by aquatic life and we were able to do some seining.

Looking for a great field trip?  We would highly recommend the amazing staff, facilities, and opportunities at Marine Discovery Center!  Next up on our calendar is our Leading Light at The Acre on November 10 from 1-4pm.  Bring a used(or new) wrapped book for a fun exchange!  It is also a wonderful time to meet other educators, collaborate, and just relax.  Family members are welcome too!  See the attached flyer for more information.  We hope to see you there!

Sometimes, “experiencing” a place or topic is difficult to do in-person.  It is in times such as that, when educators and students can turn to the world of Immersive Reality.  Available immersive reality opportunities allow students to interact with complex concepts and scenarios, visualize concepts in three dimensions, can be personalized to offer various levels of challenges, can help students learn faster and retain information better, connect individuals to different time periods and cultures in unique ways, build emotional intelligence/awareness, and provide accessibility to experiences that may not be possible for some to access.

This week you can help students cultivate their knowledge and curiosity by accessing a Nearpod virtual field trip to “visit” the Taj Mahal, get stranded on the ISS, or get “gamified”.  Discovery Education offers ways to virtually build, share, and inhabit virtual worlds!  Explore with Google Expeditions or get creative with Google Arts and Culture.  NOAA offers virtual dives under the sea.  Uncover ways immersive reality can address global population issues.  Join the digital revolution in the realm of engineering, and more!  The world is at your fingertips with immersive reality technologies.
