AEM Traditions Resource Roundup

Writer: Ashley HollernAshley Hollern

Hello educators!  The winter break is upon us at last.  The team at Authentic Exploration Matters wishes you all a wonderful break filled with cherished moments and time to relax.  May your new year be highlighted with all the good things!

This week our Resource Roundup will feature ways to include some new options for highlighting traditions.  Elevating and supporting various student traditions not only helps build cultural appreciation and awareness, but it also helps contribute to building a positive self image.  As youth teach and learn about traditions, they gain a better understanding and more respect for different cultures.  This time of year, we see a lot of different traditions around various holiday including Hanukkah, Christmas, Yule, Boxing Day, Kwanzaa, New Year’s Eve and more!  These traditions can include songs, music, stories, activities, and such.  While many traditions are celebrated across a culture, some are even created within a family. We hope these resources will help connect you with some ideas on ways to elevate traditions within your classroom and school wide community.
